WELCOME TO THE NCC ART ROOM

!!!! WELCOME TO THE NCC ART ROOM !!!!

Hi there! This is a new experiment Mr.Craig is going to try as an even easier way of bringing you examples of student work and to keep his image set organized and useful. Let me know if you are using it, if you find any problems or dead links and if there is anything you would like to see!

"Who am I?" Part 1: Maskmaking

Assignment 1) - Mask Making

This project will give you an opportunity to explore paint as a media while giving you great freedom of choice in regards to personal symbolism and style. Exemplars will be made available in class and on the class website. The first part (maskmaking) is an exercise - designed to expose you to new media and techniques and to give you some practice with them before moving on. The assignment (What's in a name?) requires some real thought and planning as well as an understanding of the paints and materials to find success.

Supplies required: Paintbrushes, scissors, ruler, any additional decorative elements (glitter etc.), personal soap/towel etc. to clean themselves after the mask is made.
Supplies provided: Paster bandage, acrylic paint.
  1. You will provide me with 2 designs in your sketchbook. We will then discuss/negotiate which is going to make the most sense for this project and what materials/additional design issues you may need to take into account.
  2. Gather any additional materials you may need for your design.
  3. On the two days alotted, build a mask with the assistance of one of your peers.
  4. Decorate the mask to match your design plans
  5. Complete a written reflection on the project, on your process and on the product you have made. Include information on why you chose this design and what you think it says about you or your interests. This reflection can either be legibly hand written (or printed) into your sketchbook OR may be typed and glued into your book.
Your reflection should answer the following:
A) Tell me about your mask design. What is it? Where did it come from? Why did you choose it?
B) Tell me about your product. How did it turn out? What would you do the same or different next time?
C) Comment on the project. Did you like mask making? What could Mr. Craig do to make your learning experience better?
6. Masks will be displayed in the cabinet.

Here are some student examples of the Grade 9 Maskmaking project. Many more to come.....
